AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
On Monday, after lessons, a post goes up on the school intranet announcing the introduction of mentor groups; several teachers will be given charge of four to six students each. The information is also pinned up in the dormitories and staff room, and each staff member to be given a team is given a list of their assigned students including their powers.

Staff are told to take whatever approach they feel appropriate with their group but advised to make time for a group meeting some time over the next week. Goofy group names are encouraged but not, at this stage, necessary.

NEWS:
ON TUESDAY:
A group of youths in costume, mostly mutants, attempt to foil a bank robbery in Florida but wind up causing a fire. Nobody is seriously injured, but, although the youngest vigilante is 21 and none of them are involved with the Institute, the early days of the X-Men are recalled by a few news reporters and some point accusatory fingers at Xavier. Senator Thompson reiterates his desire to implement a mutant registration program if he is elected President in November.
ON FRIDAY:
A twelve-storey robot operated by a scientist with a grudge attacks Manhattan, but with the Fantastic Four battling Skrulls in space and the Avengers on a mission to the Antarctic, who will stop its rampage?
More information on this will go up in-game when the time comes.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Goes to New Zealand to fight a giant mutated Kakapo created by the Green Man, a deranged environmentalist aiming to restore endangered species through genetic engineering. Where putting laser guns onto massive ground parrots factors into the conservation aspect of his plans is unclear, but Wolverine wins anyway.

OOC NOTICES:
If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone. If you've got a new teacher character (ie. if this is their first game update), it's probably a good idea to leave a comment here to give everyone an idea of what their first classes will be like.

If anyone has any issues with the group assignments please let the mods know!

Expect Ed to have those assignments late (what? Paperwork again? BLAH) but he can answer anything with the best of them. Periodic table memorized forwards and backwards, and for this first week, he'll just hang back and watch you. Maybe when he thinks it's a good time, he'll throw out a question here and there that will have the teacher thinking.

XD That's.. kind of awesome, actually.

Your poor headspace though.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
It works pretty well, actually. If had two characters like Josh... yea that wouldn't work so well. XD

Ed will have no idea about music. He's one of those, listen and do kinds of guys. If there's any homework involved, he's going to slack off.
saintedsinner: (defensive)

[personal profile] saintedsinner 2009-10-05 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
He shouldn't have too much of an issue with them. If they're lower level, and he's had some martial arts experience (smart kids need to be kept occupied, yo.) Ed's response to the dummies?

"WHAT THE HELL! THEY DON'T COME BACK UP LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE!"

This will be the place where people will be able to notice that Ed's right arm and left leg aren't human. Not as good as adamantium (however it's spelled) but he can pack a wallop of a punch!

Mag frowns on slacking. >( She will drag you aside and talk you through it if she has to. She won't, however, resort to dragging him to class or anything like that.

If you give it your best shot he'll give decent grades even if it's a pile of melted crayons. He tries not to grade on talent, because that's rather unfair.

Also, Mr H is confused of why everyone wants to make friends with creatures that are controlled by his own brain. However the kangaroos will happily accept pets and headscritches. They feel like touching a painting on canvas, but warm and breathing.

It really wouldn't.. It's hard to play more than one intellect and ego-driven characters.

[identity profile] sundaysiesta.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
A book report? x___x Yui's going to fail that hardcore. She'll be quiet and terrible and probably fall asleep at some point during english.

He'll rant on about how it's a load of BS anyway. People don't need to know the classical theories and then the modern theories to know what good music is. Or enjoy it.

He may very well drop his 'basket weaving' class.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
This actually isn't a theory class- music history and music theory are two very different things. XD It's about understanding the different eras of music and learning to recognize them. Basically, it involves a lot of listening to music and being able to tell what instruments are playing, what the form might be, major or minor, and the 'expressive content,' or what emotions it's conveying. But his point probably still applies. XD (And I'm sorry for the tl;dr, I'm a part time music teacher. XD)
saintedsinner: (I ALREADY TOLD YOU)

[personal profile] saintedsinner 2009-10-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
(It's all good for me! I haven't taken music in .. crap 16 years)

... Ed's so claiming that this is a waste of his time and bail. So much for getting a cultured southern boy outta him.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Mag will sigh. And then not really bother. XD

[identity profile] valetudochamp.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
It's a good thing they fade first, because they'll be bisected with an assembly-line regularity, and Tatsuki will only break a sweat because she prefers it that way.

[identity profile] 5hirogane.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Naoto's in both classes. He won't have much to offer in English, as he's more versed in Japanese literature and genuinely is learning in this one.

As for firearms? Naoto brought a gun from home, for pete's sake. It even has a name. He knows the rules and is really just taking this as a refresher course, so if it seems like he's only going through the motions, he is.

[identity profile] hawkeye-ii.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
OH YAY PROJECTILE WEAPONDRY. by which I mean. Kate's in ur class, being gleeful.

[identity profile] 5hirogane.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Naoto is, predictably, an INTJ. What may frustrate Mr. H, for exactly the same reason I frustrated every math teacher forever, is that he correctly deduces this in his head, without showing his work. Along with the answers, Mr. H will get the paper back with an "INTJ?" written off to the side.

Draco's essay will be exactly the required length with exactly the required number of sources and will cover all of the listed subtopics. However, it will be rather boring, as most of it was done using a thesaurus and mad paraphrasing skills with encyclopedias.

During the metal demonstration, Draco will start out in the back of the class, murmuring about how nonsensical it all is. However, once things begin to explode, he will shove his way to the front, and thank god for safety goggles or he surely would have lost an eye after the caesium.

He will be able to recite the periodic table by Thursday, and his roommate probably will as well, from all of Draco's practice. He is determined to be an exemplary student, even if he has to work harder than some of his genius classmates. Hopefully his attitude won't affect his grades =|

Only if you ignore this account

Miku spends all of Music History really excited to be there--she's a bit of a Mag fangirl--and also writing down all the information. She's super interested in this class. Can I have the ten basic elements of music? :o
maiiau: (Default)

[personal profile] maiiau 2009-10-05 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
This is totally not my main account what are you talking about

Alfred will have no trouble, but he also has no form. He's strong enough to just brute force his way through, though, and will also be helping out Matt. Also Al + control is lulz so he might seriously damage/break some of the dummies.

Larxene also has no trouble, pretty much electrocuting her way through hers.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
awwww fishies

*puts on music geek hat*

The ten basics elements are Melody, Rhythm, Harmony, Texture, Timbre, Form, Media, Genre, Dynamics, and Expressive Content. Basically whenever they start a new work, they'll have to write down characteristics of each element that apply to the piece.

Melody: Stuff like stepwise (notes that are right next to each other), skipwise (notes that are jumping around), triadic, and all that jazz~
Rhythm: Steady rhythm, syncopation, duple, triple, etc.
Harmony: Consonant, dissonant, major, minor, modal.

Texture: Monophonic (one line of music), Homophonic (one line with chords under it), Polyphonic (many lines), thick, thin.
Timbre (also called 'tone color'): Light, dark, heavy, high, low- describes instruments sounds, but DOES NOT NAME THE INSTRUMENTS.
Form: ABA, rondeau, sonata allegro form, concerto, theme and variation- basically if it has a named 'form' in music

Media: The instruments used, whether it be orchestra, voice, or bicycle.
Genre: The genre of music. Opera, sonata, prelude, etc.
Dynamics: Loud or softness of the piece (aka forte and piano).
Expressive Content: Easily the most subjective part, this is the part for what the piece reminded you of, or what it made you feel, or even a scene you conjured up that fits the music.

She might also ask for possible age and composer, once they get that far.

Alfred is so excited about firearms. Soexcited. He's actually paying attention and writing stuff down and while he has no training or anything he'll pick everything up quickly. Fascinated Alfred is fascinated, and oops the fact that he is actually kind of clever when he's not pretending not to be/being lazy is slipping out.

[identity profile] usedsuckerpunch.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Sakura will have no trouble. She'll just plow through them with a regular sort of punch.

MATT however, will need help and probably to be moved to Toph's class. Because his brother taking out half or more of his dummies won't float well with him or anyone really. Besides Al. I kind of suspect he'll come out of there with pretty good bruises before he gets up the courage to just ask to switch to another class.

Larxene pays attention, hands in the essay, uses entirely book sources (and no encyclopedias), and is generally easy to get along with. Amazingly.

[personal profile] maiiau 2009-10-05 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Larxene is ENTJ. She seems interested in the class, and also in what other people got. She's trying to establish connections between the theory of these things and how to apply them in a useful manner.
