GAME UPDATE: September 13th, 2009 (Sunday)

AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
On Monday, after lessons, a post goes up on the school intranet announcing the introduction of mentor groups; several teachers will be given charge of four to six students each. The information is also pinned up in the dormitories and staff room, and each staff member to be given a team is given a list of their assigned students including their powers.

Staff are told to take whatever approach they feel appropriate with their group but advised to make time for a group meeting some time over the next week. Goofy group names are encouraged but not, at this stage, necessary.

NEWS:
ON TUESDAY:
A group of youths in costume, mostly mutants, attempt to foil a bank robbery in Florida but wind up causing a fire. Nobody is seriously injured, but, although the youngest vigilante is 21 and none of them are involved with the Institute, the early days of the X-Men are recalled by a few news reporters and some point accusatory fingers at Xavier. Senator Thompson reiterates his desire to implement a mutant registration program if he is elected President in November.
ON FRIDAY:
A twelve-storey robot operated by a scientist with a grudge attacks Manhattan, but with the Fantastic Four battling Skrulls in space and the Avengers on a mission to the Antarctic, who will stop its rampage?
More information on this will go up in-game when the time comes.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Goes to New Zealand to fight a giant mutated Kakapo created by the Green Man, a deranged environmentalist aiming to restore endangered species through genetic engineering. Where putting laser guns onto massive ground parrots factors into the conservation aspect of his plans is unclear, but Wolverine wins anyway.

OOC NOTICES:
If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone. If you've got a new teacher character (ie. if this is their first game update), it's probably a good idea to leave a comment here to give everyone an idea of what their first classes will be like.

If anyone has any issues with the group assignments please let the mods know!

I believe this is Mag's first full week, so. Ignore the account.

Her illusions class will be a pretty straightforward first class- introductions, a basic explanation of illusions, and a demonstration her own powers. She will ask individually about all students means using illusions, but won't press the subject if your character would rather not say. They'll start off with very basic, small illusions, but she will expect them to be detailed and realistic.

Music History will also have intros, and the main focus for the first several classes will be the ages of music/art and their characteristics, as well as the ten basic elements of music. If anyone wants to know what these are, just ask. She will also go through each of the ages with examples of what that era's music sounds like.

Minato is attending Mag's Music History class and learning a lot of things he didn't know before, being that he just plain studied the violin and some composers earlier.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray learning! \o/ Most of the stuff Mag teaches will be opera or orchestral for this class. :D So yes. Variety!

[identity profile] teloschain.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweet. \o/ Hey, if it's musical, Minato's in. 'Nuff said. 8D

Neku's in Mag's music history class. While he doesn't speak up or anything, you can tell he is interested in the material.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mag appreciates your interest, Neku. :D

[identity profile] quantumbird.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Sally is going to fall in love with her Music History class and will likely pester Mag about getting copies of the recordings she used for example music.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Mag will be more than happy to give her copies or tell her where she can get them. :D

[identity profile] pagesofmemory.livejournal.com 2009-10-04 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Zexion will be in her Illusions class and will play dumb about how exactly he does his illusions, definitely not saying anything about his lexicon if he can avoid it.

He'll be very curious about how the other students perform, probably too curious, but he'll claim its only because he wants to know in case their powers work similarly to his own. It's a lie, he's busy scheming away, but he'll play innocent in the matter.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
She won't press him on his own powers, but she will note his curiosity with the other students and be a little suspicious. =| Especially since he's going to have to use his illusions in class. She won't get involved most like, though.

[identity profile] pagesofmemory.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
He'll use his powers, but it won't be nearly as strong as it could be if he used his lexicon.

[identity profile] broken-tool.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Haku's going to be all over that music history class. And probably pester her about all the little details.

Oh, and setting up private lessons? O:

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
She likes talking about the details. :D

She'll set up a time that works for him, she's pretty open.

[identity profile] broken-tool.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well! :D

Wonderful~ He's eager to get into things.

[identity profile] sundaysiesta.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Music History's going to be one of Yui's favourite classes, probably the one she puts the most effort into. Of course, that's still only a teensy tiny amount of effort. If there are group discussions, she'll deffers be joining in, even if she just sounds like an idiot most of the time.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Mag will at least work to make sure she has her facts straight. XD

[personal profile] saintedsinner 2009-10-05 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ed will have no idea about music. He's one of those, listen and do kinds of guys. If there's any homework involved, he's going to slack off.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Mag frowns on slacking. >( She will drag you aside and talk you through it if she has to. She won't, however, resort to dragging him to class or anything like that.
saintedsinner: (leave me alone)

[personal profile] saintedsinner 2009-10-05 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
He'll rant on about how it's a load of BS anyway. People don't need to know the classical theories and then the modern theories to know what good music is. Or enjoy it.

He may very well drop his 'basket weaving' class.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
This actually isn't a theory class- music history and music theory are two very different things. XD It's about understanding the different eras of music and learning to recognize them. Basically, it involves a lot of listening to music and being able to tell what instruments are playing, what the form might be, major or minor, and the 'expressive content,' or what emotions it's conveying. But his point probably still applies. XD (And I'm sorry for the tl;dr, I'm a part time music teacher. XD)

Only if you ignore this account

Miku spends all of Music History really excited to be there--she's a bit of a Mag fangirl--and also writing down all the information. She's super interested in this class. Can I have the ten basic elements of music? :o

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
awwww fishies

*puts on music geek hat*

The ten basics elements are Melody, Rhythm, Harmony, Texture, Timbre, Form, Media, Genre, Dynamics, and Expressive Content. Basically whenever they start a new work, they'll have to write down characteristics of each element that apply to the piece.

Melody: Stuff like stepwise (notes that are right next to each other), skipwise (notes that are jumping around), triadic, and all that jazz~
Rhythm: Steady rhythm, syncopation, duple, triple, etc.
Harmony: Consonant, dissonant, major, minor, modal.

Texture: Monophonic (one line of music), Homophonic (one line with chords under it), Polyphonic (many lines), thick, thin.
Timbre (also called 'tone color'): Light, dark, heavy, high, low- describes instruments sounds, but DOES NOT NAME THE INSTRUMENTS.
Form: ABA, rondeau, sonata allegro form, concerto, theme and variation- basically if it has a named 'form' in music

Media: The instruments used, whether it be orchestra, voice, or bicycle.
Genre: The genre of music. Opera, sonata, prelude, etc.
Dynamics: Loud or softness of the piece (aka forte and piano).
Expressive Content: Easily the most subjective part, this is the part for what the piece reminded you of, or what it made you feel, or even a scene you conjured up that fits the music.

She might also ask for possible age and composer, once they get that far.

[identity profile] hatsunemix.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay, Miku should be pretty good at that. :o

Also, while I'm thinking of it, private vocal lessons? :o

[identity profile] thimbleflight.livejournal.com 2009-10-05 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we talked about this. You've got a Wendy in the class, since this is the closest thing to her power that's to be found...

Whoo. :P
