GAME UPDATE: Sunday November 29th 2009

NEWS:
The attack at the conference is used as a springboard for an emergency bill, allowing a number of high-profile companies and government branches to make X-gene testing compulsory for employees. Stark Industries is amongst a small number of companies opposing the "knee-jerk reaction", as quoted in a recent interview with its CEO following the incident.

Negotiations have fallen through between the Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the Genoshan ambassador for the release of press agents detained whilst trying to illegally enter the port city of Hammer Bay. The family of one reporter appears on national television on Wednesday to repeat the appeal for their release.

Basil Dopes, the Vice President, is reported on Monday as having referred to Speaker of the House Havelock Vetinari as having a "stick up his ass". Vetinari declines to comment.

THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
New arrivals and students coming back to the Institute following their Thanksgiving break will find it not an especially happy place following the Brotherhood's simultaneous attack on the conference and arrival at the school on Wednesday – Milla Vodello, the X-Man known as the Mental Minx and the Xavier Institute's Dance teacher, was killed in the attack. Emma Frost has offered some reassuring words (and pointed out which students might need an adult), while Lara Raith makes a point of offering counselling for those not taking it very well. Lara, however, may have ulterior motives ...

The weather is increasingly cold; it snows heavily on Tuesday evening.

THE BROTHERHOOD OF MUTANTS:
The underwater base is suddenly home to a bevy of new bros in the form of recruits picked up from the Xavier Institute by Rune, Red Helen and the Gambler (who hasn't returned with them, instead having been posted to some stealthy work in New York City). Red Helen has posted a welcome message for the new arrivals.

A meeting is held on Monday during which Magneto welcomes the neophytes into the Brotherhood's folds. (You had all better have codenames.) He says that human governments like America's are bringing only catastrophe on themselves with mutant-hating legislation like the registration bill, which he condemns as little more than a tool to attempt to control mutants; those who say it could be used to mutantkind's benefit are, he says, giving humanity a benefit of the doubt they have more than proved they do not deserve. He speaks with certainty of the mutant revolution he considers inevitable: he will be only too happy to help bring that revolution about.

This sort of meeting is probably the most that anyone besides senior members of the Brotherhood will see of Magneto, but he is around in his private fancy submarine chambers. (He probably will not notice if you steal one or two of his many spare capes to use as hammocks.)

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Tackled a massive genetically engineered iceproof bat that was menacing an Arctic research station.

OOC NOTICES:
• So we've had a pretty significant change this past week in that now there's a secondary focal point of the game besides the Xavier Institute itself – the Brotherhood of Mutants' underwater base is now home to quite a few characters. The Brotherhood base has its own network – if your character is posting to it, please use the !!brotherhood tag on [livejournal.com profile] xi_online and indicate in the post title that the post is being made to that network, because only Brotherhood members can view and respond to Brotherhood posts. (The Brotherhood can't view the Xavier Institute's network, either.)
If you've got a character who's now in the Brotherhood, remember to check out this post covering Brotherhood-y basics – and edit your character/s onto this list if you haven't already.

• If anyone has students who they want to join the Brotherhood of Mutants but were away for Thanksgiving or fighting at the conference when the Brotherhood arrived at the school, Lara Raith has made a deal with Rune to guide potentially interested students to the Brotherhood. More on that here. If anyone has students who they want to join the Brotherhood but it's just a case of the player having missed the event, feel free to handwave their having joined, but let us know so that we can update our lists accordingly.

• We'd like to remind everyone that we have a feedback post on which players can leave complaints, suggestions and feedback if they don't want to message a mod directly. Comments are screened and anonymous is enabled. We do our best to address problems with the game that are raised on this post, and, needless to say, we really really would rather hear your complaints there than on RP!S.
We mess up sometimes. We can't always please everyone. But we will damn well do what we can, especially if you actually tell us if you have a problem.

• As ever, this post is open for talking about what's going down for Xavier Institute classes and stuff, as well as Brotherhood training sessions and similar. We do encourage people to thread classes and mentor group activities where possible rather than just handwaving all of them, but if you don't want to do a thread or you want to plan something or wevs, this is the place!

...lmfao. Oh, he would be just thrilled with that.

I suppose just Aura would work too or something idk I fail at this lol.

[identity profile] onlyendinpeace.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
just as planned.

Aura sounds good :o jdsl;sf oh man I fail at codenames too, Elle should have hosted this thread. I think Aura suits him though. Coming from someone who doesn't really know what he's like, but it's a good, direct tie to his powers.

:| :| :|

He'll probably be like bawww it sounds kind of girly at first but deal with it :'D. Powers-wise it's a good fit if not a little straightforward and I'm not going to come up with anything better haha.

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww Terry. >: Yea it totally wasn't just you, we all got a little distracted like my just noticing the log for them orz.

Hooray! \o/

Re: COUNSELING, MEDIEVAL WEAPONS

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be cool. \o/ Though it might be a little tricky getting her to talk about it.

Re: CONTROL

[identity profile] melodyofwater.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok. \o/ Mickey will probably be the first person who gets to be told about her powers, then. :Db

[identity profile] dancesthrulife.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god you're teaching dance now?

OTHERWISE, Fiyero is a very good dancer and probably at least and alright singer and so if Rogue is looking for more people to participate in the musical he's probably a pretty good candidate. The problem lies in getting him to do it because it will actually require a significant amount of effort on his part and he's not really a fan of effort.

I'm also still willing to throw Kurt at it, if you need some ensemble members--I doubt he'd be good enough for a lead part.

Belle: Is going to quietly fangirl in her seat that she's in Enjy's class. And reads the book at least twice even if she has already, and even though she might not discuss as much as some of the others she does pay very close attention.

COUNSELING, MENTOR GROUP

[identity profile] bookloverbeauty.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Roderich is, as always, definitely up for anything Ms. Lara might suggest. He doesn't want to join the Brohood though. Jas would find and kill him. >> Dinner might be nice to try again since the other one got crashed though.

Due to Very Depressing News From Home, he will be needing to talk to someone later this week. Because I like making him sad.
superspeeds: (.sw - lost)

[personal profile] superspeeds 2010-03-07 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he kinda figured nothing would get done which is while you all get failed this unit. Who's to say if that's the fault of the irresponsible teacher or the irresponsible students. He certainly doesn't care either way.

JUST AS LONG AS TINA DOESN'T GO OFF AND JOIN THE BROTHERHOOD.

MAGNETO'S LECTURES ARE MORE BORING. REALLY.

Tai will just keep suggesting things like Garden Lad and Plant Boy and Mr. Plantcredible until someone punches her.

Re: Mentor and Flight

[identity profile] ormery.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
She was zipping around all over the place punching things/saving people, so I'd be surprised if she hadn't seen any of it at all. She wouldn't mind having a talk with him \o/

Al is totally getting a hug.

She can generate energy from her body that can be used to destroy internal structures of things, but the energy can also be used to heal if more refined control is applied. To date she's only been able to heal the fractured wing of a bird with it, though.

Her eyes also see the internal structures of things if she's within three feet or less of them.

Fireworks, Chakra, or Implosion would work for her, but she wouldn't be able to think of the latter two on her own. She'd also reject Implosion on the grounds that people could shorten it to "Imp" ^__~ Being an elementary school aged kid makes one more aware of possible embarrassing nicknames.

Re: CONTROL

[personal profile] maiiau 2010-03-07 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Alfred's seen weirder. He's actually getting control of his super strength lately, and can open doors and shake hands without breaking doorknobs or bones. It's more controlling how hard is too hard he's having problems with lately--when he uses his strength he tends to use too much of it. His flight is fine, except he isn't the best as sharp turns or fancy maneuvering yet. Also he doesn't entirely know how all his powers fit together--his real power being personal energy manipulation/biokinesis, which allows him to use extra physical/mental/both energy for neat stuff.

Miku thinks Mickey is adorable! She still can't stop her emotions from leaking into her singing and out to everyone else, and she's starting to get the hang of reading the emotions of others, which makes the former problem worse. Also there are hints of her getting worked up leading to the strength of her powers increasing, although it's more of an overwhelmed worked up right now, so not entirely useful.

Re: AVIATION

[personal profile] maiiau 2010-03-07 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Alfred is super excited and already knows all the planes to the point of a boy with a flying obsession. If anyone points out he can fly without the aid of any sort of plane he will ignore them. He does really well in the simulator, except when he tries to do cool stuff that ends badly.

[identity profile] firstlaugh.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking in this instance it's the irresponsible student, for sure.

lmao there is no way Tina's going to join them - the atmosphere in a submarine would probably make her hair go frizzy :'|

That and she really does not care in the slightest about politics.

[identity profile] firstlaugh.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If Tina could have a counseling log with Lara that would be great

and by great I mean traumatic

[identity profile] ration.livejournal.com 2010-03-07 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
... I. Forgot his codename was Rune for a second there and was like "Elle came up with Norway?"

ART

They'll be working on drawing landscapes. Because it's simple and relaxing, and gods know they could use SOMETHING relaxing during this time.

There will be the usual array of art-creatures roaming around, willing to assist students with simple tasks like cutting or fetching things.

PSYCHOLOGY

Mr H will be talking about Psychological Development and such things. Basically how the brain is thought to develop during different stages and what ages people are when these generally finish.

MENTOR GROUP

....COME HAVE COFFEE WITH MR H. because fjdksj we never do anything. /sob.
