Jeremie's ability is called "Memory Immersion". When he touches a person or object or if he walks into a room, he can become immersed in a particularly strong memory associated with whatever he's touched or wherever he's walked into. However, only Jeremie can see, hear, smell, and even touch whatever's there. Of course, while he can do all those things, he can't affect whatever's going on in the past. For example, if his hand brushes against wet paint in a memory, he can feel the wetness but he wouldn't leave a fingerprint since the paint is no longer wet. Heck, whatever the source of the wet paint was might not even be in that particular place if what he's picking up memories off of is a person or object that's nowhere near where the original memory is.
He's in Control since his ability randomly activates, usually locking in on the most potent memory it can find or allowing him to see memory "echoes" from time to time. That and he wants to be able to direct his ability since he can mentally "rewind" time or skip back to the present if he's currently immersed in a memory. He's just really bad at the latter without help, and the former gives him a headache.
