GAME UPDATE: September 6th, 2009 (Sunday - evening)

AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
New arrivals have been settling in over the last couple of days, and hopefully the majority of them, at least, will be ready for lessons starting in the coming week. The nature of LJ RP the school, of course, means that students and staff will continue to trickle in throughout term simply because the Institute is as much a school as it is a haven for those who need its protection, and people don't stop needing a safe place to go to just because term already started damnit.

OTHER NEWS:
Five mutants are executed in Pokolistan* without a trial for using their powers in a public place; mutant rights groups call for President Henderson to condemn the executions, but she takes no action either way.

*this is a DC thing but we figure if people have gone fo the effort of inventing stupid made up countries, we might as well use them.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Rescued a rare species of sentient mold from extinction at the hands of Doctor Doom. Inside a volcano.

OOC NOTICES:
Normally game updates will not happen so close to each other as this and the last one have been, but 1) from now on the majority of game updates will happen on a Sunday (usually a little earlier than this) and 2) we want lesson plans from you! Well ... kind of.

If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone.

Since this is the first week of lessons ever, I'd advise everyone with a character who's teaching to do it just so that everyone has an idea of what their lessons are like, to start off with!

(And, of course, if you do want to do a thread for a lesson, that's absolutely fine.)

We'd also like to remind you that apps close on the 30th of September!

WALL OF TEXT

For the first week, Havoc will be handling Ability Control Evaluation Exams. These will be relatively simple tests customized for each student's ability, to determine the necessity of additional lessons from her. The ACE Exam is mandatory, and all students are expected to attend, though none need be played out as logs. Who passes/fails is entirely up to the mun of the character in question. Anyone who feels their character would require her class can feel free to let me know via IM, or just reply to this comment. Muns can go ahead and add their character to the class roster at any time, not just this week. I'll put up an OOC notice in Havoc's journal later on.

Possible incident in this class: Naminé will refuse to use her power at all, even to be tested. I'm just wondering what the response will be/how that will end up.

Too lazy to log in as Shikamaru haha IC

Shikamaru skipped your class Havoc.

Hiei failed. Miserably. He's only got two settings currently: off, and fiery Armageddon.

I'm going to say Virgil most likely passed the test. Just, given how well he seems to handle his powers in his given canon. /shrug

Sorry I sort of rambled >>;

Josh I think is probably going to need to take the class. He can control what he currently knows how to do with his powers, but that's only really skimming the surface I suppose? He also has super senses (all five of them @_@;) and he can't control that very much at all yet so they generally cause him discomfort and he would very much like to solve this problem. Yes.

Re: WALL OF TEXT

[identity profile] seethedead.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Joshua's powers mostly involve seeing things, but he hasn't exactly had much practice with the 'attacking with shiny beams of light' part. But he knows how to do it, and how NOT to do it, so he'll probably pass.

Nia won't be like OUT OF CONTROL but there is a lot of stuff she COULD do with her powers that she does not know how to yet. Mostly she can only make cloud shapes and sort of fly, but eventually she should be able to turn herself totally into clouds/change airflow and manipulate gases and stuff like that, she just need to hone her powers :3 Sooo she will need the class!

Ty Lee really doesn't have a clue what's going on. She apparently can temporarily disable people's movement or abilities, but she doesn't know HOW to do so... or to NOT do so either, though thankfully hugging seems to be harmless. So either nothing would happen in her exam, or someone would lose their powers or movement in a limb for awhile. It's a toss-up, and she has no control over which outcome yet. She needs knowledge of her abilities in general as well as definitely Zach's anatomy class.

Simon has no idea how his powers work. So he'll definitely be needing this class as if they ARE on, they can be really dangerous, especially if he's not in control of them.

Axel passed the test with flying colours, and Tommy only just passed in regard to his explosions, so it's up to Havoc if she wants him to attend that.

UM

I'll probably have to discuss with you whether mine need control, because Temeraire's power (A cross between Bolt's Superbark and Black Bolt saying something in your general direction) can't be so much controlled as aimed.

In contrast, Sasuke's is subtle and he's been practising for his entire life, technically, so he probably doesn't need control lessons so much as lessons on When It Is Appropriate To Psychically Control My Peers.

Well with Hinata, it's pretty much always on, her power. She can see through things and such, but she can't really turn it off. She'd probably pass though but it's not a complicated ability.

Sakura on the other hand? WEll she's good at what she knows how to do, but she doesn't really know why or how she does anything. IE, she doesn't really know what her power is? Just what it can do /orz so complicated. She'd pass, if they're testing what they know she can do.

[identity profile] thelost1of3.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Celeste passed of course. Not many ways she could have failed. But she's also probably not going to go to your class again. She's got Miss Frost if she needs help.

Uhhh. What if a student pretty much can't control their powers effectively without intense emotional kick-start?

[identity profile] pagesofmemory.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Zexion will pass if it's based on things he knows he can do.

There is space for him to improve his range and such things, but he's pretty good at controlling his powers to begin with.

But, even if he passes he'll probably stick around to watch the class as to keep up with the possible threats learn more. :3

Cass can't control her powers, although they don't have dangerous effects anyone but her. 8( But she can't read your text post. So she won't know!

Rictor told you just to sign him up for as many classes as possible, and that if you really wanted to see his power you'd need to do it somewhere else.

Why do I remember that movie 'Sky High' and the car dropping... >A>

Kurama will ace the control class but leave the room stinking of roses for at least a week. B)

Marcus... passes, to a certain extent. tl;dr cut in the interest of time, but basically he's got some psychological barriers up that keep him from being able to do fun traditional-telekinesis-y things. But he's got superstrength and invulnerability and flight and stuff, so it's all good.

... although I can see him flying through the ceiling on accident during the test itself, as that's the ability he's got the least experience with.

Alfred probably ripped the door handle off on the way into the room. Oops. But at least it's still on its hinges!

Robin will ask Havoc if she can do her test in a private, one-on-one setting. Then she'll try to offer a lengthy explanation of what happens (basically she can trigger the transformation with a little effort, but once she transforms she can't control it or change back, and she only changes back when she passes out) in an effort to avoid taking the test, though she would do the test if Havoc insisted.

[identity profile] sundaysiesta.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yui probably failed, in that she only starts floating when she stops paying attention to stuff (which is basically always, sigh), and isn't entirely sure how to do it when she wants to do it.

[identity profile] usedgust.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Ojeez /LATE

I figure Naruto would fail simply due to the fact that he would lose control momentarily and Havoc would get to see the red-eyed beastie. Even if it's by mistake and Naruto gets the reigns back. He's pretty good when it comes to everything else... but that.

Miku needs the classes. She'll refuse to sing anything angry, but will demonstrate with something happy and maybe with something sad if requested. She pretty much can't figure out how to turn her powers off, so.

[identity profile] teloschain.livejournal.com 2009-09-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Minato will pass fairly easily; after all, he just has his healing/evasion raising ability, Cadenza, so far.

When Thanatos pops up, however, it will be another issue, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

... Ilu. XDDD
