GAME UPDATE: September 6th, 2009 (Sunday - evening)

AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
New arrivals have been settling in over the last couple of days, and hopefully the majority of them, at least, will be ready for lessons starting in the coming week. The nature of LJ RP the school, of course, means that students and staff will continue to trickle in throughout term simply because the Institute is as much a school as it is a haven for those who need its protection, and people don't stop needing a safe place to go to just because term already started damnit.

OTHER NEWS:
Five mutants are executed in Pokolistan* without a trial for using their powers in a public place; mutant rights groups call for President Henderson to condemn the executions, but she takes no action either way.

*this is a DC thing but we figure if people have gone fo the effort of inventing stupid made up countries, we might as well use them.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Rescued a rare species of sentient mold from extinction at the hands of Doctor Doom. Inside a volcano.

OOC NOTICES:
Normally game updates will not happen so close to each other as this and the last one have been, but 1) from now on the majority of game updates will happen on a Sunday (usually a little earlier than this) and 2) we want lesson plans from you! Well ... kind of.

If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone.

Since this is the first week of lessons ever, I'd advise everyone with a character who's teaching to do it just so that everyone has an idea of what their lessons are like, to start off with!

(And, of course, if you do want to do a thread for a lesson, that's absolutely fine.)

We'd also like to remind you that apps close on the 30th of September!

Zach has mostly spent his time fretting over lesson plans for anatomy classes, reading a hokey self-help book on how to get along with your coworkers, and working on a model of an Arado Ar 196 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arado_Ar_196) in his office.

Students who are taking Zach's anatomy class should note that he is an incredibly awkward teacher and that he doesn't seem to know what pace is appropriate for high school students. He's trying, bless him, but there are probably a few snickers from the back of the class every time he does something awkward. :D

all students who make the foolish decision to attend wade's class this week will emerge from the room either smelling strongly of lemons or limping slightly.

hell if i know why.

WALL OF TEXT

For the first week, Havoc will be handling Ability Control Evaluation Exams. These will be relatively simple tests customized for each student's ability, to determine the necessity of additional lessons from her. The ACE Exam is mandatory, and all students are expected to attend, though none need be played out as logs. Who passes/fails is entirely up to the mun of the character in question. Anyone who feels their character would require her class can feel free to let me know via IM, or just reply to this comment. Muns can go ahead and add their character to the class roster at any time, not just this week. I'll put up an OOC notice in Havoc's journal later on.

What about both?

[identity profile] professorpool.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
that is also a possibility.

also if any of you want to make any kind of reference to something horrible and/or amusing occurring in his class that is fine since it probably happened :'D

Possible incident in this class: Naminé will refuse to use her power at all, even to be tested. I'm just wondering what the response will be/how that will end up.
paintedfeathers: (arrow ۞ Mr. H is not paying attention)

ART
In the art class, Mr H will have everyone with a large sheet of paper. He'll set out water color paints, crayons, colored pencils and charcoal. Basically just a 'do something to show me if you know anything about art' sort of thing. He'll also have his minks and a few wolves wandering the classroom to get any supplies the students need--or provide living inspiration. You'll have the whole week to create something.

Feel free to say absolute chaos happened the first class period--someone managed to paint the walls or explode the crayons and get colored wax everywhere. Any characters you think would do this, feel free to have them have done so. He'll try to contain the mess with his creatures, either by cleaning it or by containing the student who caused the mess.

Classes after Monday will just have colored pencils and paper available, nothing else. >:|

PSYCHOLOGY
Mr H will just be going over basic things here, and trying to write on the board. However, because he's distracted and a touch nervous all the first week, his powers will make the writing on the whiteboard 'come to life' and try to escape. So write fast. Your character is free to say they tried to catch the words as they ran away as well.

Earth Science- Will be held outside. First day will probably involve introductory stuff, Toph talking about herself, asking about the students, blah blah blah. If anyone wants to test how much they can get away with in the blind chick's class (AND FAIL MISERABLY AT IT) be my guest. The rest of the week will consist of talking about rocks. Fairly easy week...we aren't even going to be playing in the dirt...yet.

Combat- Will also be held outside. Toph will be testing everyone on their levels of strength, flexibility, agility, and defense. She'll then be working on breaking you up into groups accordingly. I know we have other Combat/Martial Arts instructors among our teachers so if you guys want to coordinate something with me that would be awesome.

I think that's it lessons wise. Contact me if you have any questions. "Earth" power people, if you want to set up a private lesson with Toph let me know.

Too lazy to log in as Shikamaru haha IC

Shikamaru skipped your class Havoc.

Just wait till they get to the reproductive system in anatomy. *snicker*

[identity profile] monarchs-voice.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Possible response: Havoc takes Namine aside after school for a heart to heart to hear her out on her reasoning.

She's got a lot of bad experiences of her own regarding her powers, and doesn't use them herself, so she can relate. And personally, I wouldn't mind logging that conversation. It'd be a nice chance for Havoc to open up to someone and get some character development, at least, but that much is up to you.

[identity profile] monarchs-voice.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Laziness is different. Tell him to weigh the options: Take 20-30 minutes out of his day for a very simple test, or get stuck with a class he doesn't need for a year at minimum. If he's still too lazy, well. Those are the options.

Hiei failed. Miserably. He's only got two settings currently: off, and fiery Armageddon.

[identity profile] crayolamutant.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't mind logging either, though I'm not sure how much of a response Havoc would get out of Naminé on her reasoning? She's going to be pretty closemouthed about her background, at least initially. It could definitely pave the way for future conversations in which she opens up more.

[identity profile] monarchs-voice.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to Control Classes. Prepare for a year of Havoc's death glare.

Also, Mr H encourages students to come to talk with him after class. If anyone wants/needs this let me know.

Be aware that even if your character doesn't know, he'll charge them for coffee, or end up wiggling some favor out of them in return for listening/giving advice on things. He's not a bad guy, but he always works in trade offs. 6_6;

[identity profile] monarchs-voice.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's totally fine. She'll need to take the lessons, but expect Havoc to go easier on her than other students.

[identity profile] queenwitha-j.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Shikamaru's got a firm grasp on his powers, but they aren't very strong yet. So he needs the class. But he didn't feel like going to any of his classes.

All two of them.

[identity profile] darkestxdragon.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Greeeeeat. This will go swimmingly.

[identity profile] queenwitha-j.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Should I just come up with random things Santo thinks was amazing in Deadpool's class?

[identity profile] boobwindow.livejournal.com 2009-09-21 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
COMPUTER SCIENCE will probs not be especially eventful! Peej is not an absolutely stellar teacher but she's not a bad one, either, and she does know what she's doing (contrary to what one might expect, she can deal with a computer that's not doing what it ought to in ways other than putting her fist through it).

Messing around in her class will be met with unimpressed patronising sarcasm; if you don't take her seriously she won't take you seriously.

If he's got a firm grasp, he really shouldn't, as this is for students who explicitly don't.

However, if he skips the exam, expect Havoc to, upon receiving permission, go down to his dorm and wake him up personally and drag him to class.

Every day.

I'm going to say Virgil most likely passed the test. Just, given how well he seems to handle his powers in his given canon. /shrug

That's fine, but like I said, I only need to know who will need her class.
