GAME UPDATE: September 6th, 2009 (Sunday - evening)
AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
New arrivals have been settling in over the last couple of days, and hopefully the majority of them, at least, will be ready for lessons starting in the coming week. The nature of LJ RP the school, of course, means that students and staff will continue to trickle in throughout term simply because the Institute is as much a school as it is a haven for those who need its protection, and people don't stop needing a safe place to go to just because term already started damnit.

OTHER NEWS:
Five mutants are executed in Pokolistan* without a trial for using their powers in a public place; mutant rights groups call for President Henderson to condemn the executions, but she takes no action either way.

*this is a DC thing but we figure if people have gone fo the effort of inventing stupid made up countries, we might as well use them.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Rescued a rare species of sentient mold from extinction at the hands of Doctor Doom. Inside a volcano.

OOC NOTICES:
Normally game updates will not happen so close to each other as this and the last one have been, but 1) from now on the majority of game updates will happen on a Sunday (usually a little earlier than this) and 2) we want lesson plans from you! Well ... kind of.

If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone.

Since this is the first week of lessons ever, I'd advise everyone with a character who's teaching to do it just so that everyone has an idea of what their lessons are like, to start off with!

(And, of course, if you do want to do a thread for a lesson, that's absolutely fine.)

We'd also like to remind you that apps close on the 30th of September!

ART
In the art class, Mr H will have everyone with a large sheet of paper. He'll set out water color paints, crayons, colored pencils and charcoal. Basically just a 'do something to show me if you know anything about art' sort of thing. He'll also have his minks and a few wolves wandering the classroom to get any supplies the students need--or provide living inspiration. You'll have the whole week to create something.

Feel free to say absolute chaos happened the first class period--someone managed to paint the walls or explode the crayons and get colored wax everywhere. Any characters you think would do this, feel free to have them have done so. He'll try to contain the mess with his creatures, either by cleaning it or by containing the student who caused the mess.

Classes after Monday will just have colored pencils and paper available, nothing else. >:|

PSYCHOLOGY
Mr H will just be going over basic things here, and trying to write on the board. However, because he's distracted and a touch nervous all the first week, his powers will make the writing on the whiteboard 'come to life' and try to escape. So write fast. Your character is free to say they tried to catch the words as they ran away as well.

Also, Mr H encourages students to come to talk with him after class. If anyone wants/needs this let me know.

Be aware that even if your character doesn't know, he'll charge them for coffee, or end up wiggling some favor out of them in return for listening/giving advice on things. He's not a bad guy, but he always works in trade offs. 6_6;

I wish I had a character who would be in that Psych class, just to catch one of the fun words like "bamboozle" or "hullabaloo" and keep it as a pet.

XD Apparentally everyone wants a 'pet' piece of art/words. Unfortunately with te way Mr H's powers work that's not possibly unless he wants to be constantly aware of the creature's existence. I suppose with some sort of psychic transfer someone could have one work separately from his brain. [/ramble]

I don't think he'll be using fun words like that--more like limbic system or hippocampus... or cognitive dissonance.

If some of the words are taken out of the room after class, the student will find them as a pile of ink later.

Yeah, that's... basically how things went with my Sea Monkeys.

Wow there was a lot of iphone induced fail in my last post >>;
Aren't sea monkeys little specks anyway? How could you tell they turned into anything?

They're a species of shrimp[citation needed]. What happens is, they go into this weird hibernation-stasis thing when freeze-dried. If you do everything right, you have little tiny shrimpthings swimming around your fish tank. They're small, but you can make out features if you squint once they start moving around.

Hiei had to take something other than science, so you'll find him in here, staring at the art supplies in confusion. He's not going to be a star pupil.

Will he be one of the ones who blew up the art supplies?

Either way Mr H is going to have fun with him, isn't he?

He sat in the back and melted the crayons. He's already in trouble for igniting things, so he'll try to not actually burn the place down. And growled at the creatures that came too close. Overall, a very bright and pleasant child. e_e

But he did do some drawing. Not very good, but there you go.

Well if he actually tried Mr H will respect that (melted crayons not withstanding). He'll probably not bother to bug Hiei unless he purposefully does poor work--or if he blows off the assignments.

If Mr. H doesn't mind, Celeste might stick around and help with any accidents that happen. She enjoys art, and doesn't want to see the room messier than it needs to be.

As for the Psychology, If she needed anything for notes and didn't get them before they got off the board, could she just get them from Mr. H's mind?

Mr H is very thankful for any help. He really should have known better then let loose a bunch of mutants with imaginations.

He'll be pretty frustrated with himself about the running text so he'll allow that and possibly try to print out notes for other people.

Cass would love to come do art. It's one of the few ways she can communicate. 8)

Won't be causing any trouble, though.

Mr H will encourage everyone to do their best. If he figures out she doesn't understand speech, he'll probably end up showing her one of his many books of various art pieces.

Hi there. B) 'sup.

Kurama will be in your classes. He'll probably tease him during the psychology class. NEVER FEAR MR. H! He'll be all too glad to capture your runaway sentences.

[personal profile] paintedfeathers on September 22nd, 2009 02:28 pm (UTC)
XD Someone had better before they start a ruckus. And Mr H won't mind the teasing--he'll probably tease back in a friendly way--but he's still rather flustered and embarrassed by his powers (literally) running away from him.

Kurama can give him a housewarming class-warming present? A vine plant to put on his front desk, to whip out vines and munch on the runaway words? idk. xD;;

He'll quietly find the entire fiasco HILARIOUS. Way to break the ice there, professor.

[personal profile] paintedfeathers on September 22nd, 2009 02:46 pm (UTC)
He would probably be better off with something under his own control, but he'd be highly amused at the plant anyway.

Not a purposeful thing but he'd hide that under a good laugh--after all people who can't laugh at themselves will just end up dying of heartattacks from pointless stress.

Robin will join in art class, and she'll behave very well and try her best, but she's not so good at art so it comes out neat but not very pretty.

He's not grading on ability so you'll be fine. As long as you give it a shot he'll be understanding.

...Also please don't destroy his classroom, he's still a bit sore about that. D:

Minato will be taking the Psychology class, as much to learn more about the human mind as to learn about his own. His powers spring from his own psyche, after all. He will have stared at the words as they ran by.

He'll also be taking the art class, and... well, he'll be quite good at it, mostly drawing mythological beings and abstract concepts.
