GAME UPDATE: September 13th, 2009 (Sunday)
AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
On Monday, after lessons, a post goes up on the school intranet announcing the introduction of mentor groups; several teachers will be given charge of four to six students each. The information is also pinned up in the dormitories and staff room, and each staff member to be given a team is given a list of their assigned students including their powers.

Staff are told to take whatever approach they feel appropriate with their group but advised to make time for a group meeting some time over the next week. Goofy group names are encouraged but not, at this stage, necessary.

Bobby Drake: Draco Malfoy, Haku, Holly J Sinclair Miku Hatsune, Tom Bronson

Cloud Strife: Axel Pyres, Larsa Solidor, Neku Sakuraba, Temari Subaku

Dick Grayson: Aang, Edym Raffles, Ino Yamanaka, Naoto Shirogane, Simon Digsby

NEWS:
ON TUESDAY:
A group of youths in costume, mostly mutants, attempt to foil a bank robbery in Florida but wind up causing a fire. Nobody is seriously injured, but, although the youngest vigilante is 21 and none of them are involved with the Institute, the early days of the X-Men are recalled by a few news reporters and some point accusatory fingers at Xavier. Senator Thompson reiterates his desire to implement a mutant registration program if he is elected President in November.
ON FRIDAY:
A twelve-storey robot operated by a scientist with a grudge attacks Manhattan, but with the Fantastic Four battling Skrulls in space and the Avengers on a mission to the Antarctic, who will stop its rampage?
More information on this will go up in-game when the time comes.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Goes to New Zealand to fight a giant mutated Kakapo created by the Green Man, a deranged environmentalist aiming to restore endangered species through genetic engineering. Where putting laser guns onto massive ground parrots factors into the conservation aspect of his plans is unclear, but Wolverine wins anyway.

OOC NOTICES:
If, during the upcoming in-game week (two IRL weeks), you want a lesson one of your characters is teaching to go a certain way, or if your teacher character plans to be doing something specific and unusual with the lesson, but you don't want to actually log the thing out (which is reasonable), this is where you say so. Drop a comment on this post, other people can reply, fun for everyone. If you've got a new teacher character (ie. if this is their first game update), it's probably a good idea to leave a comment here to give everyone an idea of what their first classes will be like.

If anyone has any issues with the group assignments please let the mods know!

Havoc's class starts off with the basics. Learning to concentrate, namely. The first class will consist of a single exercise, the one she used to gain control over her own abilities: Mentally blocking out the rest of the world entirely. No thinking about anything, not emotions, not your surroundings, just your ability and your teacher's instructions. Simple as that. Over the course of the week, of course, she's going to make concentration more and more difficult. Sometimes, she'll clear her throat, sometimes she'll turn a rusty valve, and sometimes she'll just flick spitballs at you. That's as extreme as it'll get for this week, but she'll escalate it at a steady pace over the course of the year, so that by the time she's done with you, you will have a full level of focus while in the balmy heat of a sub-tropical jungle, through the sounds of machine gun fire and the threat of killer bees, even if you don't think you need to.

Naturally, this method, though it should work for most (she'd have blown herself up years ago if it didn't), won't work for everyone, and she'll be able to tell who it works for and who it doesn't. If you fall into the latter category, say so, and you'll have a new IEP ready for next week, likely involving a one-on-one tutoring setup.

Anyone who didn't arrive in time for the ACE exam last week, you'll take it this week, as will be the case with any future arrivals.

Shikamaru takes that as an invite to sleep through class.

You know how police officers deal with unruly suspects, with the twisting the arm and all that? This is how Havoc deals with sleepers. This class is for your own good and you are going to take it seriously. >:|

Shikamaru has enough control that if you walk into his shadow you will let go of his arm.

Alfred's main problem with his abilities is how natural for him it is: he really can't sense a significant difference between snapping a shin bone and ripping a piece of tissue paper. Until he learns to appreciate these differences this won't help all that much. :c Once he does figure this out, though, the concentration will help.

That's part of the goal of the exercise. If he learns to focus on his strength, then he's at least expected to learn how to exert it at different levels, but if this will be a problem, one-on-one lessons can be arranged beginning next in-game week.

Well, I think the concentration will help, it's just since he's focusing on his strength it might get worse before it gets better. XD

Does he have the class, though? If he passed the exam when he got here, he doesn't need it.

He's taking it as a safety measure. JUST IN CASE. He was stuck inside his armor for a good 6 years and he's only recently gotten pulled out of it, and he's scared of it happening again. He's actually scared of a LOT of things when it comes to his power.

She can feel free to tell him to GTFO if she thinks he doesn't belong there. He'll pout at her, though.

Well, I think we already talked about Neku being in your class.

I think he might be okay with this technique, although he might be one of the slower ones to get the hang of it.

yui's going to be pretty slow at this. sometimes she'll just daydreaming, and that'll be pretty obvious, as she'll start floating. otherwise, she'll be trying too hard to concentrate and not be able to clear her mind enough to actually concentrate.

she'll manage to hit the right amount of focus a few times, though, so she's not exactly a lost cause.

Zexion won't have much trouble learning the focus meditation, he's used to using his power in high stress environments during missions for the Organization, but he still will probably crack if she shoots a spitball at him.

But spitballs are nasty, though. D: lol.

He'd much rather be cloaking himself from energy blasts Oh wait, that'll probably happen, won't it? :|

Amadeus will have to take the ACE exam this week, and he's not going to do very well. He'll seem like he's doing okay at first, but then he'll sneeze and all of the nearby circuitry will start to smoke and spark. He will be very embarrassed, which will only make things worse, and I wouldn't be surprised if everything in the room has shorted out before he's finished.

He is very, very serious about having total control over his powers because working with electronics is a big part of his life, so he is more than happy to attend this class. He isn't going to be so hot at meditation, though; he has a more-or-less constant stream of numbers running through his consciousness, and he doesn't really know how to turn it off. (This might be why he has trouble controlling his powers...?) So when they're supposed to be clearing their heads, he'll try to do it, but just end up thinking very seriously about air molecules or the trajectory of Havoc's spitballs or something instead.

Matt will have to take the ACE exam this week and really, he needs the classes. It bothers him to take away powers, so really the more control he has over it (and any control is more at this point) the better.

So yes.

Haku will have absolutely no problems concentrating, except for maybe when the umpteenth million spitball hits him.

And Kisara just got here pretty much, but she'll probably flunk the ACE exam herself due to the fact she has absolutely not idea how to do the transformation for her dragon. Hell, she wouldn't know it existed unless someone told her.

apparently, will also be taking the ACE this week too.

Sally will find concentration frustrating, as she's used to tuning things out already and she, uh, has no idea what triggers her powers. They just turn on and off and she has no idea how. :|

Rictor concentrates extremely hard, but he has a hard time blocking out Earth-related stuff. He isn't sure if that's okay or not.
