GAME UPDATE: Sunday November 22nd 2009
AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
Professor Xavier announces that he will be speaking at the mutant registration conference due to be held on Wednesday – he requests of his staff that a few ex-X-Men (or other staff members with similar experience) accompany him to the conference, "if only in the hope that the presence of costumed super-heroes will serve to deter any petty acts of violence." This isn't made public to the students, of course – any kids who take the school up on the offer to attend as part of the audience will probably be the politically inclined sort who're actually keen to sit through what promises to be a few hours of people like Professor X having Serious Discussions ... or ones who want to be there to cause petty acts of violence.

Thanksgiving is November 26th, Thursday. While some people at the Institute will of course be going home to spend Thanksgiving with their families, enough of them are are either orphans or not from America that there'll still be plenty of people around, so expect some kind of big orphan Thanksgiving party.

Weather at the Xavier Institute this week is on the cold and windy side.

NEWS:
A school in New York City is destroyed on Tuesday, the 24th. A mutant student is found unharmed in the rubble; her name isn't made public but the school in question states it is planning to sue.

A conference is to be held in New York on Wednesday, November 25th, at which a variety of notable authorities on the matter will be speaking on the subject of the proposed mutant registration bill. Professor Charles Xavier confirms on Sunday that he will attend. Among other confirmed speakers are anti-mutant evangelist Reverend William Stryker.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Logan is sent back in time, and to Mars, by a spectral entity bearing an uncanny resemblance to Abraham Lincoln.

OOC NOTICES:
• NAG TIME: over eighty people didn't check themselves in for this month's activity check. That's as many as eight tens, and that's terrible. Admittedly some of those eight tens were mods –WE ARE ALL BAD PEOPLE let's try to do better in future 8( We have to tally that stuff up at the end of every activity check, and it's a right pain to have to go through that many people who didn't check in but were still active – so BE KIND TO YOUR MODS AND ACTIVITY CHECK. IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO. AND IT'S THE LAW.

• On a vaguely related note, DON'T MAKE PURA SAD. REMEMBER TO TAG YOUR CHARACTERS' NAMES ONTO THREADS YOU POST TO WITH THEM. Also, if you're going on or coming back from a hiatus, please don't forget to comment to the hiatus post!

• As ever, this post is open for talking about what's going down for classes and mentor groups this week. We do encourage people to thread classes and mentor group activities where possible rather than just handwaving all of them, but if you don't want to do a thread or you want to plan something or wevs, this is the place!

Thanksgiving, Control, Driver's Ed, and Mentor Group
Thanksgiving: Mia is gone all week for... some reason or another. It may or may not be related to the holiday, it could just be a coincidence.

Velma (Leaving Wednesday Morning) and Shikamaru (Leaving Wednesday Evening) are also missing for the end of the week, they returned to their respective homes for the holiday. Shikamaru will be back for the weekend, Velma will be back for Monday classes.

Control: CLASS IS BEING TAUGHT BY... WHOEVER WANTS IT THIS WEEK.

Driver's Ed: CLASS IS BEING TAUGHT BY... LOGAN! HAVE FUN KIDS!

Mentor Group: YOU ALL CAN GO HANG OUT WITH WADE THIS WEEK! IF THAT IS COOL WITH YOU HAMMIE? :3

Conference, Earth Sci, Combat, Mentor Group, Marital Arts Club
Just a note that Toph will be going to the conference with Professor Xavier on Wednesday and then from Thursday through the weekend will be at her Parents' house for Thanksgiving. AS SUCH, she has canceled classes from Wednesday through the Thanksgiving holiday. 8D Happy day for you, huh?

Earth Science- TUESDAY is your test over the desert unit. However, she also gives everyone in class a turkey SANDwich as a joke before you take the test.

Combat- Since we'll only have classes two days this week, Toph let's you have SPARRING DAYS. She's mostly having students spar with partners without powers and working on technique. You can even spar HER if you want :3

Mentor Group- We aren't doing anything this week due to the holiday. She hopes you enjoyed the MMA tournament though.

Martial Arts- No meeting this week.

Santo totally did (even if he could have taken like everyone there)!

Shikamaru might be showing some improvement... at dodging. He still fails to grasp the idea of throwing punches (or any kind off offense).

Combat
YUSUKE WILL FINALLY ATTEND CLASS FOR ONCE. And he'll enjoy himself! Which...will be a surprise to him, but :( He'll fail horrible at the technique honing, though, since what is having a set style in street fighting \0__o/

And if he really did end up tagging along with the mentor group for the MMA thing, he thought it was the best night EVER ;3;

Rictor does really well on his desert test and enjoys the heck out of his turkey sandwich

he then gets his ass kicked by Toph in combat BUT HE TRIES

he will also give her a note that says like happy Thanksgiving in Braille, horribly misspelled but it is the thought that counts

Counseling and Mentor Group
COUNSELING - If anyone's interested in their students being inappropriately counseled what with the holidays and people going home/not going home/not having a home to go back to, let me know and we can either handwave it or I'll throw up an open post.

MENTOR GROUP - Since most of Lara's group is from out of the country, you guys up for a mini-Thanksgiving dinner party (pre Orphans Thanksgiving), either out on the town, in the school or (gasp) at Lara's apartment?

SINCE I FAIL AT HIATUS. Music History + Appreciation
MH: We're just going to assume they'll be wrapping up the section on pre-14th century music. Test at the end of the week. It's mainly multiple choice with a few fill in the blanks, and a section on matching composers and the like. There's one essay question, it's largely subjective and asks for your personal opinion on if music was important during this time and why.

MA: Performing media: instruments and voices. Be prepared to listen to lost of modern and older instrumental pieces as well as a large slection of A cappella too. Of course there'll be some that are both as well. There'll be a discussion later in the week about if there's any difference to the impact of the three types.

GEOGRAPHY and MENTOR GROUP
Geography
Idk, a goddamn ton of mindless tests and quizzes just cause. There may or may not be actual information. Sorry to those expecting to learn.

Mentor Group
Idk. Pietro will largely be elsewhere as THE LITTLE ONE is visiting soon. He might ask some of the more sensitive of the group if they have any toy suggestions for a six year old.

Do y'all have any ideas?

Thanksgiving
LUNA IS VISITING (HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED). Also, Wanda is having the BEST PARTY EVER. Mostly, though, Pietro will be followed around (or tote around proudly) a very creepy six year old. Seriously, this child is demure, but the scariest thing ever. Feel free to notice, but know that Pietro considers her the CUTEST THING EVER and will be insulted if you don't share this opinion.

Mentor Group: You guys were all forcibly dragged to a rally and sort of left on your own for a bit the Saturday before this week. Afterwards, Courfeyrac rounded you all up and bought you ice cream, before attempting to gauge your political opinions/ mock your accent, in the case of JP.

This week he's going to the conference on Wednesday and will attempt to drag you all there. You are not obligated to attend, but he'll pout at you if you don't. Also on Wednesday, you will find messily constructed but overall pretty good homemade mini pumpkin pies in front of your doors. Happy Thanksgiving!

Band, Mentor Group
Short update since I'm kinda fail this week. ALL YOU GUYS NEED TO KNOW is that it's pretty much business as usual in both Band and the Mentor Group, with allowances made for people being gone/no classes at the end of the week for holidays/whatever the official schedule is at XI. Brook seems unusually manic even for him (to the point that it may occasionally seem forced) but god damn class is hilarious so it's probably no big deal. v(._.)v

dfffffff I fail at seeing things. ILLUSIONS CLASS
Itachi gained Terrible Debilitating Migraine Headache +1. Class is cancelled. Students are later emailed the assignment: read 1984 and discuss how the inhabitants of Orwell's dystopia are, effectively, willing participants in the illusion of their own happiness with the state of their society. Minimum one page, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-pt font, by next class.

Ask about why class was cancelled (stated reason: teacher is indisposed) and get no response.

Emma goes to the conference TO NO ONE'S SURPRISE and probably gives a speech or two as to what she would like to see on the bill. Storm talks a little about the international consequences and Warren spends most of the time updating Iggy on the strange faces Stryker makes whenever one of the X-Men starts to talk, kind of like he is constipated.

EMMA

ENGLISH: SENIORS continue reading 1984 and doing reading response journals, same for JUNIORS and Their Eyes Were Watching God. Lots of discussions.

ESL: Write a short narrative about Thanksgiving!

ADVANCED TELEPATHY: The practical applications of hallucinations and illusion, a couple danger room sessions.

MENTOR GROUP: go for apple cider and have a nice lil discussion about your Thanksgiving plans.

CHESS CLUB: plays chess

ROGUE

SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS THERE ARE STILL LIKE 20 ROLES LEFT BEFORE I CAN POST THE CAST LIST

NULL CLASS: like last week only more so. On Friday they go out for sandwiches!

MENTOR GROUP: go out for a nice dinner!!

STORM

MALI TRIP YOU GUYS!! Afterwards you will be expected to write a brief report. Then it's on to the ancient Ethiopian empire! There is also mathboxes and reading.

INTERNATIONAL CLUB: I will be posting about the Grand Feast shortly! In the meantime any suggestions would be most appreciated.

WARREN

is subbing for AERIAL COMBAT! The first part of the week is spent crashing into things at very high speeds. Students who cannot do this without hurting themselves are given protective gear. The second part of the week is spent sniping! You will be expected to hit targets from increasingly high altitudes with your BB guns. Students who choose instead to shoot at each other will have their BB guns confiscated and be forced to fly laps.

Tina isn't a big fan of crashing into things as she's pretty good at being all nimble and evasive. And protective gear sounds rather unfashionable. :C

Sorry for the fail last week...and this week. Actual teaching is kinda draining.

Anyway, for shapechanging class its a mix of reviewing the psychology of how to keep people from flipping out when you change, and lessons on how to deal with 'Doors, the Silent Foe'

Mentor group, how about that camping trip sometime soon, when student teaching isn't draining my will to live.
