GAME UPDATE: October 18th 2009

AT THE XAVIER INSTITUTE:
IT'S SPIRIT WEEK!! A myriad exciting things will be going on all week, presumably, although your friendly neighbourhood mods aren't doing the organising for that – if your character is organising an event, feel free to either plan it in the comments to this post or in posts to [livejournal.com profile] xi_ooc. If not, keep an eye out for other people's updates!

The weather continues on the colder side. It rains on Wednesday and Friday.

NEWS:
On Sunday October 18th (that's today), news reports air of a large, unidentified object that appears to be a spacecraft, observed by several parties to plummet into the Atlantic Ocean. The stretch of ocean it supposedly crashed into is searched – there are signs of severe disruption on the seabed but nothing is actually found.

On Tuesday 20th, a group of three youths are caught graffiti-ing pro-mutant messages on the property of Allen Sherrdit, Harvey Thompson's running mate in the upcoming election. (In, like, two game weeks, guys, omg!) One of them, having previously been using her pyrokinetic abilities to let the group see what they were doing, panics when Sherrdit's security apprehends them and hurls a fireball at one of the guards, who is severely injured – the guards retaliate by shooting. The pyrokinetic mutant, Fiona Mackintosh, 21, is killed – the others, Cody Ziemba, 19, and Saundra Bahe, 24, are unharmed, but are arrested – whether they are mutants is not being publicised.

WHAT WOLVERINE DID THIS WEEK:
Battles the Slow Loris on the edge of a mile-high African cliff. A narrow victory.

OOC NOTICES:
• Applications open this coming Wednesday, December 16th. They'll stay open for a week, until December 23rd. Any app we get before we wake up on December 24th will be valid. On that note, we'd like to remind you about the recent post on character limits. To clarify: staff apps will be open this week, but not next app period. If you have any other questions about limits feel free to IM a mod.

• On a vaguely related note, from this app period onwards, the activity requirement for characters based outside the Institute is going to be lower than the one for those studying or working there. Whilst during an activity check all characters are currently required either to have tagged somewhere during the week before the check or to tag while the check is going on, from now on that will only go for characters at the Xavier Institute – others will only need to have tagged somewhere during the month before the check, and we'll be much more lenient in cases where they haven't depending on the individual character and what they're up to. This isn't to say that non-Institute characters can't be hecka active if you want them to be, but we do recognise that it's not as easy to get activity for a lone villain, for example, or for someone working in a shop in Salem Center, as for a student at Xavier's. This is also to remind you that characters like this are totally allowed and encouraged.

• Speaking of villains, we're starting to get back to people who've emailed us about this (very belatedly in some cases, we're afraid!) but we need some bad guys for a specific plot event in the near future and more can't hurt. Email us at xavierinstitutemods@gmail.com or IM a mod, if you're interested.

• As ever, this post is open for talking about what's going down for classes and mentor groups this week. Now that first-person action logs are permitted as well as prose, we'd encourage people to thread more classes and mentor group activities rather than just handwaving all of them, but if you don't want to do a thread or you want to plan something &c., this is the place!

Woodshop and Mentor Group

[identity profile] supremeweek.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
This week, while there are surely some of you slower types who are still working through the basics, those of you who have already caught on to the tools are given a project. Franky is very vague as to what this "project" is, mostly implying that you should try and come up with an idea on your own, and he'll be able to help you through it if you need. He does have ideas for anyone who's too lazy to come up with something on their own--Franky has a rather large collection of blueprints for catapults.

The dancing and poses keep up as much as ever. He's also been stocking up the fridge in the back of class with cola for anyone who needs a break, but he doesn't want to see any of you suckers slacking off, all right?

~~~
Mentor group gets a special treat--a trip to a scrapyard. Try complaining about it, he dares you. If you get off your prissy asses now and again, you'll probably find that a lot of the junk people toss out is useful, or can be made useful with some ingenuity. He's excited about it.
Rinoa's still working through the tools. She really isn't all that good at this but she's trying though.
She'll still occasionally join in on the dancing and might grab a cola every now and then too but she promises to not slack off.
Band, Mentor Group
[identity profile] skull-joke.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For the fifth week of class Brook will be passing out sheet music for one of Mr. Raffles' suggestions, which means that the world now gets to hear the Beatles set to a good half-dozen additional instruments that nature and Lennon and McCartney never intended. At least "Nowhere Man" is a bit more chill than Mötley Crüe, and so probably a bit easier for the less experienced kids to keep up with. Brook very much believes that keeping things at least mostly balanced out like that is important. B|
As a special bonus the class will be having another guest this week - none other than the infamously pantsless Woodshop teacher! Mr. Franky will be randomly dropping in to check on whether this whole thing is the complete disaster he (rightly) suspects it is, and likely making an entrance that will scar all your young and vulnerable retinas for life. Keep an eye out for that thread, if you would, as Brook has no eyes and cannot do so.
This week's average daily puns-per-class: 91
(If anyone wants to do a Band log again, we can probably just continue on the post from last time (http://community.livejournal.com/xi_rpg/84434.html). Just please mark your threads "week five" in addition to the character names and/or "OPEN" so we can keep track, should that ever be important.)
***
Mentor group remains silly and relaxed, with snacks and musical films for all. Yes, even young Mr. Edward, who Brook is only now privately beginning to consider far too serious for his own good. This is not something you want Brook to notice about you, and does not bode well for the future.
We've got one more week change until the week of Halloween, which I believe would be a fine time for our horrible Nightmare Before Christmas mentor group meeting. Slow-logging is of course perfectly fine, since everyone's going to be crazy busy and it's not like we don't know how the log will go if we have to refer to events before we finish it.
Franky's entrance is actually not as intense as some of his others, as he wants to catch this class in its 'natural' state. Of course, this won't stop him from being himself while he's there. Franky is bringing his bright pink guitar with him, as well. As much as he expects the class to be awful, a full room of kids paying tribute to a classic like this can in no way stop him from joining in. He's quite good.
Spin is thrilled as ever because BeatlesbeatlesbeatlesLennonMcCartneybeatles eeeee. He's listened to this one enough times in the last couple weeks to even have an idea of what to do at the start of the week. As extremely intimidated Spin is by their visitor, the fact that the guy's good at guitar results in intriguing the kid more than scaring him, soon.
Since Spin is still 'new' at this whole music thing, he's still not sure he should be giving suggestions for further weeks.
I approve of NBC so hard.
MUTANT SPIRIT WEEK + Driver's Ed + Control + Kendo Club + Mentor Group
[identity profile] queenwitha-j.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Spirit Week and MUTANT HOMECOMING
Next weekend real time (which is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY early in game) I'll put up Mutant Homecoming. And people can start with their dancing and dates and pretty dresses.
Any and all Spirit Week events should be posted here although I don't think anyone really picked ones to run, the ones I'm just going to say happen are:
- Rock Band and DDR tournament, as well as other video games (IG Monday)
- Sponsored Teacher Danger Room shinnanigans (IG Tuesday)
- Mutant Talent Show (IG Wednesday)
- A very snazzy multicultural dinner for everyone. Where various staff and students cooked foods of various cultures (IG Thusday)
- Charity Pie Event Thingie (IG Friday)
- Mutant Homecoming (IG Friday)
All events ARE Optional, students can avoid them as they see fit. Although it will be hard to avoid the Thursday dinner as its dinner. You can just, I dunno, get pizza.
Driver's Education
Everyone gets to have nice drives through various famous cities in both the US and other countries. Still learning but pretty scenery.
...
Godzilla shows up in Tokyo for this, but does not attack anything.
Control
Mia splits the class up based on your issues with control. She'll do her best to offer advice, but for the most part is leaving the kids to themselves and making sure nobody is hurt.
- Those with issues accessing their powers, they are asked to see how long they can keep their powers active in a constant duration. Mia asks to push yourself as hard as you can, but if you feel like you are goint to faint, stop, take a break, drink some water, etc.
- This with issues keeping their powers in check, they are given a situation where they would want to use their powers, but are told to do what they can to not access them.
- Those who can't seem to control their powers once activated are asked to access their powers, but only the tiniest bit active (light candle, do not torch drapery).
The week will be spent like this. Mia will probably contact other teachers with similar powers to yours if you have trouble.
Kendo Club and Mentor Group
Mia requests all the students interested in a Kendo club to meet at Noon Saturday. Incidentally Mia also requests her Mentor Group to meet in the same spot, at the same time, on Saturday. Hmm.
Flight class will be getting graded on their performance in their last lesson, although that thread (http://community.livejournal.com/xi_rpg/96392.html) hasn't even taken off yet, so ... either we finish it swiftly, or you guys tell me what went down in that for your character in this thread and I tell you what PG says about that.
MENTOR GROUP. Firstly, you guys are great for not nominating Peej to get pied, and she tells you so. She also encourages you to vote for the pie-ing of Mr. Stark. <3 Secondly, she wants to make scary movie night a regular thing but hell if she can afford to take you guys out for dinner and to the cinema every week. Take-out and a rental, however, is another matter. Films not called things like THE BLOODENING or RETURN OF THE GOREBEAST or FACE PUNCH are totally okay, but Peej knows her preferences.
Also, Al, get on that kidnapping already.
SUBSTITUTES NEEDED: GERMAN, ENERGY PROJECTION, MENTOR GROUP, HOBOS
[personal profile] truepsychictale 2009-12-12 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And the chorus sings! Last week was Sasha being out of it due to the homecoming/politics/family coming in from town but he was still there making you work.
This time it seems due to crappy luck he has caught...dun dun dun...THE FLU. So, being the little Plague Prince he is at the moment, he is putting substitutes in charge. Here is what is going on for each class.
German
Beginners:
You all get to watch German Sesame Street (Sesamstraße) ALL WEEK. You must write response papers (half a page to a page long, in English) about what happened. This is mostly to improve your listening skills.
Middle:
Because you're more advance you get to watch German Winnie the Pooh (Winnie Puuh) and write a half page to a page response in German.
Advance:
Free time! You all are ahead mostly, so you can either come to class and read or have conversation groups.
Energy Projection
Textbook work. Sorry Guys, you can use this as a study hall unless a teacher who is willing to substitute you all in the Danger Room comes in.
Mentor Group
You all get an apology and a suggestion of things to do together. If you need funding and are willing to brave going to Sasha while he is sick, he'll supply it.
HOBOS!
aka Kill Master
He'll be around, this time he might actually be caught in the medical area! GASP!
MENTOR GROUP and I.R.
[identity profile] righteousapollo.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
This week Enjolras is sporting a rather fetching black eye, courtesy of an over-zealous police officer from last week's riots. Feel free to rib him for that.
MENTOR GROUP
You guys are awesome. Enjolras is proud of you lot. This will manifest itself in lots of manly shoulder pats and the occassional grimly pleased nod. The reason he's only grimly pleased is due to the fact that he's too proud to take his name out of the pie ballot, figuring that he should set a good example to the student body or something like that. Yeah.
There may be some other kind of get together - some kind of social thing - let me know if you guys want this to happen or what.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
This week's discussion topic: can universal international law (and the policing that goes with it) ever be achieved? Enjolras will probably lecture a bit for this (here, have a wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_law) page!) 'cause he's all about law study, but there's still plenty of room for arguing.
Also, if any characters have anything of importance that they want to discuss next week let Enjolras know because he wants next week to be up to you guys.
International Relations
[identity profile] redcrystalflies.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Nakuru's take on it is that stuff like the United Nations is generally awesome, but universal international law is just too far out there. Magic of the internet aside, it's still a big world, and trying to coordinate some sort of international police force would be a nightmare.
HEY GUYS
You get to read the Constitution and Bill of Rights and discuss them in class, and then your homework is to write a short essay summarising them.
MR ROGERS REALLY CARES ABOUT THIS I HOPE YOU'RE ALL AT LEAST INTERESTED
GEOGRAPHY and MENTOR GROUP
[identity profile] kidcap.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Geography
THIS WEEK WE'RE DISCUSSING ATLANTIS.
This also gets a little bit into mutant history as Namor is considered to be one of the first known mutants. The relations between various Atlantean royals (ie - Aqua Man and the Namor clan) will most likely be discussed. Same goes for Atlanteans and surface dwellers coexisting.
Mentor Group
WE'RE GOING TO THE CIRCUS
Pietro will be overly enthusiastic about the acrobats. He very much admires their grace. You can make of that what you will.
Post-show, expect to be treated to sweets at a cozy little coffee shop in the West Village.
He also expects all of you to give soeone else money to get pied in the face. It is a personal betrayal if you do not, charity be damned. :|
Velma is a perfect student about Geography, blahblahblah. Lots and lots of notes about Atlantis.
However, when it comes to the circus, she is very bored. And desperately looking for a mystery to pop up and brighten her day.
Velma will put her money on Soifon getting pie'd. If that helps.
"Astronomy" and "World Climate and Weather Patterns"
[identity profile] moneyandmikans.livejournal.com 2009-12-12 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Astronomy
A continuation on the formation of stars, as well as an introduction to the Units of Measurement used to tell use just how far away those stars really are. There will by a (surprise) pop quiz on Friday to review some of these formulas, and to make sure they've gotten the basics of star-composition before they start into the really hard stuff.
World Climate and Weather Patterns
We're starting up with Dry Weather Climates. Students will be learning the qualities of these climates, and the different areas of the world where they can be found. This lesson will go through next week as well, so they'll have plenty of time to learn everything. Or else~
Math, Accounting, Mentor Group
[identity profile] callmeotterpop.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Math The class will start on geometry. With a pop quiz at the end of the week. The quiz is a simple little five question test. Everyone should pass it, if they've done the homework. Bobby's also going to give out NEW workbooks to everyone in the class. Each class will be assigned some pages, the students will do the work in the books, then turn the books in next class. Basically no one will have to take notes and junk in the class cause the books will have everything they need. All they have to do is read it and do the exercises.
Accounting Your first week challenge! Your companies are facing a major crisis this week. The numbers are off by a large sum (different for every group but it ranges from 100k to 500k depending on the company). You are tasked with figuring out where the money went, and how you can get it back! Have fun!
Mentor Group After the drama of the last meeting, Bobby isn't having a group meeting this week. However he will be in his office all day Saturday with a new fighting game. His group is encouraged to show up and challenge him! If any one of them beat him, he might just have a treat for you! Also he's encouraging them to just come to talk or hang out.
this is Bookie, I promise. *too lazy to switch accounts*
Mentor Group- Okay, since I totally blew the meeting last week...I WILL get one set up this time. Toph is bored so she's going to set you kiddos loose in the Danger Room...
...with a giant earth golem, on fire, with a head that looks suspiciously like a melon. I AM MELON LORD!
*cough*
Earth Science- Oceans! Yay. Actually, we're back-tracking and starting with water that's a little closer...so rivers, lakes, and stuff. How they shape the land, the water cycle, and fun stuff like that.
Combat- Again, Toph is bored. She's taking you to the Danger Room, splitting you in groups (based on combat skill, powers, and stuff like that), and having you face something like this (http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Canyon_Crawler). Don't worry all your animal people...they're only holograms.
Combat, Mentor Group
Santo is going to use all his tactics and strategy... to decide to rush Melon Lord head on and try to punch it in the Melon.
Shikamaru getting involved is based on the number of females and how much of the safety system in the Danger Room is runnning.
[identity profile] dark-pussy.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Teleporting- Never logged this last week like I said I would, so this week we are LOGGING FOR TELEPORTERS! Short distance, long distance, portals or just poofing, doesn't matter.
:3 It'll be fun, I promise.
World History- After last weeks introductory period, we are starting our first unit with ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS (that were awesome), this will include Sumerians, Egyptians, the Minoans, and Babylon.
Mentor Group- Well, let's keep going with the thread we have from last week (http://community.livejournal.com/xi_rpg/98248.html)...since it seems we've finally all gathered. As such, no official thread this week...
However, that doesn't mean you're free for this week. Yoruichi will be taking you all out to a sushi bar. Expect to be amazed by how much food she can consume and still be as skinny as she is XD :3 Discuss what might happen below guys!
EMMA:
ENGLISH:
JUNIORS continue reading I Know Why the Caged Bird sings, with reading response journals as per usual. SENIORS start working on their satire paper.
ESL: Finishes up whatever tense they were working on last week, starts discussing future perfect tense. Vocabulary is assigned, it is about leisure activities.
ADVANCED TELEPATHY: learn about how to borrow actual physical skills via telepathy. Assume that if your student has an unusual power they will have individual assignments.
Mentor group: Go out to lunch on Saturday at a very classy cafe in Soho.
ROGUE:
REHEARSALS REHEARSALS REHEARSALS
Null class: danger room sessions involving nullifying/draining/borrowing the powers of multiple opponents. Students who borrow powers also practice utilizing multiple powers at once. On Friday they go out for Chinese.
Mentor group: Rogue brings in her guitar and they have a jam session. I'd also like to log out a shopping trip at some point before homecoming?
STORM:
Continue reading Tuck Everlasting. Pearl gets private reading lessons. They also start studying climates and do more mathboxes.
Emma English.
Remember how Duo thought the book was boring and the journal was stupid? Well he didn't do it this week...not even a little. Yeah, in fact he wants to know who thought he needed this class. Expect him to try and switch to a new class whenever he can find a way out of it... or so he thinks.
Art, Psychology, Mentor Group, Art Club, and Graffiti-related outrage
[personal profile] nuclearshota 2009-12-13 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
ART
Okay paintings from last week are done--or well, if you're not, Mr H will offer time after classes for people to finish up.
We're going to move on to learning about shading (crosshatching, dotting, etc), contrast (black vs white), and cropping. They'll do some notes on these subjects on Monday then be told to bring in a picture from a magazine for Tuesday (school appropriate people). For the rest of the week, they'll be picking a 4 inch by 4 inch section of that picture to enlarge to 12 inches by 12 inches.
They can sketch in pencil, but the finished product must be in pen--which means the picture will be nothing but black and white, hence the need to learn shading techniques.
The usual zoo of art-creatures will be around.
PSYCHOLOGY
Talking about Psychoanalysis and its history this week. Yay for Sigmund Freud mindfuckery. Mr H will announce that the class will have an essay, two pages, due next week on the pros and cons of this style of psychology.
However, after the events of Tuesday expect a few cases of the whiteboard notes running away again. Mr H is distracted and upset over graffiti artists being pointed out as nothing more than criminals.
MENTOR GROUP + ART CLUB
Who wants to help Mr H make another mural?
GRAFFITI-RELATED
Mr H is very upset about the girl who was shot and the ones who were arrested. Normally he's not very into mutant politics and such, but these are fellow graffiti artists (even if they're probably only using the medium for their political message) and this makes him rather outraged at what happened.
Mr H will be touchy about the whole thing for the rest of the week.
Feli naturally gets the shading, contrast, and cropping done easily, and picks a picture of the Sistine Chapel for his project.
And he's totally up for murals.
Feel free to note that oh-so-lovely bruise on Joly's arm. It's about ten kinds of purple. Police riots are indeed dangerous to your health.
PHYSICS
Hoo boy, aren't you lucky. This week is universal gravitation. This includes, but is not limited to, finding the gravity of a planet, finding the gravitational forces between two planets, finding the velocity of a satellite and finding out the weight (not mass!) of various things. This is also where the Doctor starts to show his alien a leeeetle bit. None of the planets he uses are from the solar system. He'll give you statistics on a planet like Skaro, Gallifrey, Telos and Sontar and ask you to find the gravity, for example. While you're working on the gravity, he will tell you in great detail about the orange skies of Gallifrey or the icy caves of Telos or any other completly random yet very specific fact of these supposedly 'made up' planets.
And another fun note-K-9, the robotic dog, is now fully functional! At various times during the lesson, it will probably fuss at the Doctor to start working.
MENTOR GROUP
The Doctor is obviously on a planet kick. Ya'll are going to the planetarium! Since all the chillins can't fit in the TARDIS, we're going on public transportation. While at the planetarium, the Doctor will start up a discussion of life on other planets. This time, after helping to get the discussion started up, he'll mostly sit back and just kind of mentally grin about how wrong all of you are. :P
[identity profile] hidden-nemo.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nunnally is visibly just the slightest bit embarrassed on public transportation, but not because her standards are too high.
The planetarium should be fun, though!
Criminal Law
Going back on last week a bit, let's discuss the objectives of Criminal Law! Dick is very interested in what you kids have to say about it in general.
Self-Defense
This week Dick will be teaching how to turn everyday objects into improvised weapons for self-defense purposes and explain a thing or two about pepper spray and stun guns.
Mentor group
This week will be relaxed. He'll take you kids out for some coffee/tea/beverage of preference and just talk about how things are going, how you're experiencing the Institute so far, etc.
crim law and self def!
[identity profile] firstlaugh.livejournal.com 2009-12-13 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Self-Defence: Tina really enoys the idea of stun guns. Yes. Be afraid.
Criminal law: oo-er, Tina fails at this a little bit. "To catch bad guys and stuff" is her initial contribution, though she will come up with more opinions as the discussion goes on.
Kaito'll be continuing from last week, going through simple songs just to gets the everyone just used to singing and move onto doing so without lyric sheets. Besides that he'll be explaining terms commonly used in music. (Homework kids: remember the terms when he starts using them) Depending on how far they get there may also feature a day of round singing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_%28music%29).
This week also features Kaito playing Guitar and piano. Feel free to laugh at him when he realizes he's playing in the wrong key.
She does;however, notice this. She might have giggled a little, sorry Kaito.
If anyone wants to thread out any of this stuff, just let me know. Shouldn't be too hard. Particularly for mentor group and tracking.
TSUNADE
First Aid: We'll begin learning CPR, woo! On dummies. Of course.
Anatomy: Moving on to the nitty-gritty details of organs. Beginning with the heart, expect lots of terms and busy work.
Mentor group: We're going to the damn zoo. I kid you not. But this is for research on how much different captive animals act in response to their environment and how they react to humans than their wild counterparts. Yes, she is serious about this.
ELENA
Feel free to notice various bruises on her, but she seems unwilling to talk about the whole thing. That and she's ignoring them, anyway.
Tracking: We'll be going out into the field for these classes. Basically to a set-up search and rescue type of scenario. Pop quiz on the first day dealing with the terminology work from last week. Can you name everything there and what they're used for? Once that's done the next few days will be spent on explaining hands-on how this whole scenario works and at the end of the week setting up a mock-trial of sorts to make sure everyone knows wtf is going on.
ALSO. Elena will be offering one-on-one private lessons for those in the class with actual tracking powers.
ANTHROPLOGY, TELEPATHY, MENTOR GROUP
[identity profile] hyper-rational.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Anthropology: She continues on in her lectures with the evolution of man, having gotten even more inspired with her recent trip to the museum with her mentor group. Expect a quiz about the difference in bone structures between Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus, and how you can tell both of them apart. Also, how were the tools by H. Habilis made, which sorts of stones were used, and how you could tell a normal stone from one made from them if you were ever in an archeological dig. No, really. She will.
Telepathy: Those that have problems with shutting up voices still work on that under her care. She will also test you on whether or not you have the ability to mentally suggest others to do what you want them to do, as well as the strength of your ability.
And if you are able to do so, you will start working on how to control and make use of the 'control' aspect of mental 'suggestions', and exercises on doing little things. Nothing huge. Get a partner and with their consent, do the exercises on a list she will give you. There will be at least 5 different lists with 8 different tasks, so don't think that you'll do the same thing as your partner does. Don't worry, you can make an NPC partner. [Such things as "do X math problem on a paper" or "Use a red ink pen and write a sentence from a poem," etc. See? Small mental suggestions~]
MENTOR GROUP: New Saturday meeting to take place this week! Too bad it can't be held outside because it's on the chilly side, so we're going to settle for her classroom on Saturday, though she'll have [on a suggestion from a certain FBI agent friend that knows how to deal with kids] you can have a choice between TWO things:
A) Old school board games, such as Connect 4, Life, Battleship, Risk, Scrabble, Operation, Trouble, Sorry!, and other various such games. Not Monopoly, though. Not sure why, but not that.
B) Some video games that'll be hooked up to the overheard projector in her class. Just think Wii titles where multiplayer stuffs can be done, like: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games, Need for Speed Nitro, etc.
Choose either one of these two, kiddies, so you can have awesome bonding times~
Also, she'll have hot cocoa with marshmallows, cookies, chips and popcorn so you guys can munch on them, and she'll have some ambient music in the background so it won't sound so... odd when things can get quiet when you concentrate. [yet another suggestion from said FBI Agent friend~]
[identity profile] usedattract.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Karin is actually there, surprisingly enough. She's totally still ignoring Jacen, though.
Actually, would be appearing to ignore most everyone, having brought along her own SCIENCE books and has situated herself next to the food and is doing SCIENCE. She'd be notably closer to people in general than the last time, too, and not bitching anyone out (yet) because she can't sense any of their mutations atm.
Telepathy and Empathy: This week will be more about control and testing power strength than in previous weeks. Before, Tifa wanted them to get to know their fellow classmates and their powers. Now it's about acceptance and use.
For the telepaths, she wants to see exactly what they can do. She wants to see if they can pick up something from within her mind or a volunteers mind. For empaths she wants to see how much of another's feelings they can get to or feel for themselves without overdoing it.
If any problems arise, she will be taking care of it very very quickly.
Mentor Group: As she still hasn't heard from the two newest additions to her group, she's going to ask them to meet and they can talk over snacks. For fun, they'll be watching a movie of their choice.
[identity profile] gottasteelit.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Sasuke's been moved into Advanced Telepathy, but he might have been kept in T&E as well. In which case he'll be performing fine, though he's still avoiding the empaths like they're plague carriers.
Ohhh what movie. :D Can it be a really cheesy ninja one? Yuffie owns tons of those.
FRENCH AND COOKING
[identity profile] parfumdelarose.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
French: As many of the students have such varied levels of the language, and because Francis has previously only really tutored the subject, he's opening the floor for discussion. So kids, what do you want to learn, how do you want to learn, and no, he's not to show you the highlights of French pornography. Sorry kids.
Cooking: He's just going to start of with a few simple recipes, something anyone could really do. Mini pizzas, scones and oatmeal cookies. Once again, he's doing this to judge where certain students sit in the way of skills so he knows what he has to teach and what's in their range.
French
[identity profile] prince-dork.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahaha. Tamaki's mainly just going to say he just needs a review to keep himself in practice with the language. But he's totally okay with whatever, since he's sure not many here know the language, soo~
Poetry, Calligraphy, Mentor Group
[identity profile] hatsoflove.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Poetry: You are required to write a poem dedicated to someone at the institute. It can be a teacher, a friend, a crush, anyone. You are then required to read it to them and get their signature on the poem. Have fun with this, kids.
Calligraphy: More work on the history of the art, and you get to watch the movie Hero's AU counterpart. Because it's a really cool movie and it has calligraphy in it. He passes out information on your final project, a very complicated bit of calligraphy work that he will actually grade a little seriously at the end of the semester.
Mentor Group: He's still not sure what to do with you kids, so he went and rented a movie and got you a ton of junk food snacks. The movie, for your information, is Daybreak, because all the kids seem to really love it!
Mentor Group
[identity profile] fiery-blizzard.livejournal.com 2009-12-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
THIS Daybreak? (http://www.filmcritic.com/misc/emporium.nsf/reviews/Daybreak) Or This one? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106676/plotsummary) Or even this one? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0219640/)
Because I SERIOUSLY DOUBT you'd rent THIS one for these kids to view. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1196140/)
Either way, he won't like 'em.
Yeah. Once Shin sees the first [let' say 20?] minutes of the movie, he'll be bored out of his mind. Expect him to ignore everyone, even you, Mr. Mentor, because this just plain BLOWS.
After eating some munchies [because that's probably the only thing that's actually worth staying for], he'll most likely just leave. He's not going to sit through something that spectacularly fails in his opinion.
Superstrength
